How to install the app if the parent uses Android and the child uses iOS
If you want to install Tutorina on the parent’s Android device and the child’s iOS device (iPhone or iPad), it’s important to know that a few preparatory steps are required in the Apple ecosystem before installing the app. Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Create an Apple ID account for the parent
Even if the parent uses Android, Apple’s system requires the parent to have an Apple ID in order to enable parental control features (Family Sharing and Screen Time) on the child’s device.
How to create the account:
- Go to https://appleid.apple.com
- Click on "Create Your Apple Account"
- Fill in your name, address, date of birth, email, password, and phone number
- Confirm the codes sent by email and phone
This will be the parent’s account in the Apple ecosystem, even if you only use it from a browser or Android device.
Step 2: Add the child to Family Sharing
For Tutorina to work, the child must be part of a Family Sharing group managed by the parent account created above. Unfortunately, this step cannot be done via browser — you’ll need access to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac to set it up.
You have 2 options:
Option A – You have access to an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac)
- Sign in using the parent Apple ID created in the previous step
- Go to Settings > Family Sharing
- Choose “Create a child account”, enter the child’s first and last name, and make sure the date of birth is set correctly
- If the child already has an account, enter their Apple ID email address
Option B – You don’t have access to an Apple device?
You can ask a friend to lend you an iPhone or iPad just to set up Family Sharing. Once the group is created, you can later manage it via the web account.
Check the “Preliminary requirements for the child’s iOS device” – point 5 in the Support section, if you encounter issues during the setup process.
Important additional step:
After creating the parent account and adding the child to Family Sharing, access the child’s iOS device (iPhone/iPad) and sign in to Settings with the child’s Apple ID.
It is essential that the child’s Apple ID is active on their device for the parental control features (such as Screen Time) to function correctly.
Step 4: Install the parental control app from the App Store
After completing the steps above, proceed with installing the app on both devices by following the dedicated instructions in the Support section:
Installing the app on the child’s iOS device
Installing the app on the parent’s Android device
Important to remember:
- The parental control app requires Family Sharing and Screen Time to be active on the child’s iPhone to function properly
- Even if the parent uses Android, an Apple ID is required for managing controls in the Apple ecosystem.
